Happy Holidays Everyone,
The end of the year is here and it’s time to reflect on all the things that we have done and all of the things that we plan on doing.
2013 was an amazing year for us – we finally opened! It only took 2 1/2 years, but on September 28th, 2013 we brought the dream of opening a brewery on our family farm to fruition. We have been overwhelmed by the response thus far and are very excited about our prospects moving forward.
Although we are not even 3 months old, we released 6 beers this year:
Magic Beaver Belgian Style Pale Ale
Short Pump Saison
Three Chopt Tripel
Estate Series: Gentleman Farmer Fresh Hop Ale
Estate Series: Pumpkin Ain’t Easy – Belgian Style Pumpkin Ale
They have all been very well received. Moving forward Magic Beaver, Short Pump Saison and Three Chopt Tripel will be in the regular rotation and available throughout the year.
That’s enough about 2013, let’s look ahead to 2014:
2014 is going to be an exciting year. We finally get to put all of our time, effort and energy into running the brewery, instead of putting all of our time, effort and energy into building the dang thing.
Our first new product of 2014 is pretty cool. It is a Russian Imperial Stout, aged for over 100 days in 15 year old Pappy Van WInkle Barrels. We call it the Enlightened Despot. It comes in at nearly 11.5% ABV and over 70 IBU. We designed the beer specifically to be aged in the Pappy Barrels, using 10 specialty grains in the process.
Mark your calendars, we are releasing the Enlightened Despot on Saturday, March 1st 2014 (Despot Day).
Below is a pic of me (Sean-Thomas Pumphrey) and Julian Van Winkle, taken at Buffalo Trace when I picked up the barrels.
Cheers and Happy Holidays!
